Taking notes from the book

Today in class we just quietly took notes from the new chapter The Rise of Christianity. The living and teaching of Jesus - Judea was ruled by the Romans when Jesus was born. It was around 4-6 BC and Jesus was born in Bethlehem. He was raised in Nazareth and baptized by John the Baptist. -He started His public ministry around 30. He performed miracles and preached his messages from God. A Growing Movement - There are barely and historical records about Jesus so people know him mostly from the Gospels. His fame spread fast across the towns and people are attracted to him for his preaching. Jesus' death - The Roman and Jewish authorities are concerned about Jesus, so they denied Jesus' teaching and charged him of blasphemy. Jesus was crucified . But then He resurrected and was known as the Messiah. Christianity Spread Through the Empires - The followers of Jesus carried on his messages. Paul's Mission - Paul opposed Christianity at first, but during his trip to Syr...

We took the test today and after the test we read some pages form the book, I just got started in the book so I didn't really get any note down. Hopefully I did well on the test.

Review day for the test on Rome

Today in class we reviewed for the test. We first went over everything about the Emperors, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. And the we went over the settlement of Rome, the Etruscans, and the two foundation myths. And  next we went over the people affair, stuff like republic, comparing The US government to the Rome government, and what the three branches of the governments are. And then we did the Roman Legions, formed with 5000 soldiers, with centuries of 80, and calvary. Next we went on to the Punic War and what different things happened during the three different stages. And then we moved on to the patricians and the plebs, how the patrician steal away their land and made them to be their slaves. The patricians give the plebs free grain and provide them cruel entertainment just to keep their mouths shut. then we talked about Julius Caesar, what he did and what was important about this person, and also his horrible death. And finally we looked at Octavian, also known as Cae...

The accomplishments and the other emperors

Octavian was a good emperor and he established a lot of things and his time in charge was the golden time of Rome. After he died, some weird and cruel emperors took place. Tiberius was an excellent generals, but he had no interests in being a emperor. He served okay, meaning he didn't do anything really bad and neither anything really good. He finally resigned to a island and died there. Caligula served after him, he won the power struggle after Tiberius' death. He was extremely cruel, and he wanted everything to be fancy. He spent a lot of money on himself and his senators and the court was trying to assassinate him. Claudius suffered from many infirmities, he was not physically capable but he was a good thinker and he actually did good during his time. He was poisoned to death by his last wife because she wanted her own son to be the emperor. Nero was a weird emperor. He loved art and singing, he didn't want people to treat him as an emperor, instead he wanted to be an si...

Caesar and Octavian

Today in class we talked about Julius Caesar and his accomplishments. He was a great general and he had a lot of power over Rome and had even more power than  the Senate. The Senators were not pleased by how he had so much power and thought about a solution. Honesty, Caesar was not even doing bad things like the other tyrants in the history, he was helping the poor and was increasing the job rates and doing all that good stuff. But the Senators ended up killing Caesar at a conference by stabbing him one by one. Even Brutus, his best friend, joined the Senators. I feel bad for Caesar after all and I think the Senators made a really bad  decision.

The plebs and the change in rules.( Julius Caesar)

Today in class we learned about the plebs and how they were being please and satisfied by receiving free food and watching circuses. We also learned  about Julius Caesar. He was a highly successful general, he conquered Gaul. He was friend with some very rich and influential people, which made it easier for him to achieve what he wanted. After he conquered Gaul, he wanted to march across the Rubicon River and conquerer Rome. The aristocrats warned them not to march in but Caesar marched in anyways. That was a history-changing event.

The Punic War and the economic changes

Today in class we learned about the Punic War between the Romans and the Carthaginians. It was divided into three parts. The first punic war was naval battles fought for control of the strategically located island of Silcily. The second Punic war was fought on the elephants back. It was so amazing that they were smart to use giants like elephants to threaten the enemy but it is also brutal that hundreds of elephants died in the war. The third war was the shortest, it was tarted by the Romans and they won.

The kings' story and the early republic

Today in class we learned about the story of the kings and their horrible behavior. One of the two princess killed her own sister and her husband ,and made Tarquin to seize power from his dad. Tarquin then killed his dad and refused to even bury his body. And after Tarquin became the king, he forced a girl to have sex with him and threatened her with death. They were absolute tyrants so it make sense that the people ran over them.

Holocaust Memorial

Today we when to the brown room and join the Holocaust Memorial. Millions of people died in the Holocaust and most of them died in innocence and confusion. Hitler and the other cruel leaders of the Holocaust were racist in many ways. They killed without blinking and did not even realize their mistakes. When they read the names of the victims , I realized a lot of them are families with the same last name. This is heart breaking because before they were killed they did not even know that they will never see the people they love the most anymore. If there was no holocaust, they could have stayed together and enjoyed their lives in this beautiful world.

Rome

Today we started the slide show on Rome. I learned that Rome was first found by the Latins and became a commercial center. There are two myths about how Rome was settled. I like the second myth which was the story of Remus and Romulus. I think it is a great and imaginative story even though it's not real. But still it got me wondering about is it really possible for an animal to raise human babies. Would the baby be okay if they drink the animal's milk? And I was also confused about how would Remus and Romulus communicate, do they howl? If they really do that means when they argued about which hill to build Rome on they were probably just howling.

Note from The Roman Republic

Today in class we took note from the book.  The Roman Republic  Rome was founded in 753BC. by men for strategic location and fertile land. Rome was built on rolling hills at the curve on the Tiber River in the Italy peninsula. The First Roman settlers arrived at Rome in prehistoric time. From 1000 to 500 BC, Latins, Greeks, and Etruscans fought for the land. The Latins finally built the settlement on the Palatine Hill and became the first Romans. The Roman civilization was strongly influenced by Greek and Etruscan culture. Around 600BC., an Etruscan became the first king of Rome. Rome grew from villages on hills to a city. The Romans constructed public centers like Forum. The last king of Rome was Tarquin the Proud, he was a harsh tyrant. The Romans did not want to have a king.
